According to The Mirror, super-agent Jorge Mendes is pushing for Wolverhampton Wanderers to appoint Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira, or compatriot Marco Silva.

Wolves chose to part ways with manager Walter Zenga on Tuesday afternoon, less than three months after appointing the Italian as Kenny Jackett’s replacement.

With just four league wins in 14 games, 56-year-old Zenga has already been given his marching orders, and the Fosun Group must now get the next appointment right.

Intriguingly, The Mirror report that the Fosun Group are being advised by super-agent Jorge Mendes on who to appoint – and he is pushing for two of his close associates to get the job.

It’s claimed that Mendes is touting client Marco Silva for the role, and having forged a close relationship with Vitor Pereira, he is also a suggestion, though it’s unclear whether Mendes actually represents him.

Silva, 39, has been linked with the job for months now having left Olympiakos over the summer, but Pereira appears to be something of a new suggestion.

The 48-year-old had a fairly unspectacular playing career, but got his big break when he took over as Porto manager in 2011, having been Andre Villas-Boas’ assistant with the Portuguese giants.

Despite a win rate of almost 60% over his career, Pereira has been fairly nomadic over the last five years. First it was Porto, then Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, then Olympiakos, and lastly Fenerbahce, the club he left over the summer.

Whilst Mendes’ involvement may be something of a concern for Wolves fans, both Silva and Pereira have much better CV’s than Zenga, and could prove to be smart appointments – if given time to succeed, something Zenga wasn’t afforded.
