According to Goal, Jorge Mendes’ increased involvement in Tottenham Hotspur’s managerial hunt has resulted in targeting Gennaro Gattuso instead of Paulo Fonseca.

It looked like Tottenham had finally, finally managed to bring in a new boss some two months after appointing Jose Mourinho and going through various targets along the way.

Paulo Fonseca had ‘verbally agreed’ to become Tottenham boss and was all set for the job – but the move has now collapsed in an unexpected twist.

Why is Fonseca to Tottenham off?

There have been claims of financial issues and tax problems, but this new report states that Jorge Mendes is a big factor.

Mendes has allegedly become involved in discussions over Tottenham’s new job, and is seemingly in the ear of Tottenham’s new managing director of football Fabio Paratici.

Mendes’ influence has now scuppered the Fonseca move, and you’ll be stunned to learn that one of his clients is now set for the job…

Gattuso to Tottenham

Gennaro Gattuso left his post as Fiorentina boss after just 23 days in the job last night, but is already set for a new job with Tottenham.

Paratici is understood to admire his compatriot, and with Mendes representing the AC Milan legend, that sums up just why Fonseca isn’t arriving.

Tottenham are playing a dangerous game here. What has Mendes given them before? Mourinho, Gedson Fernandes, Carlos Vinicius and Matt Doherty. Gattuso needs to be a positive anomaly here.
