According to a report from the Bournemouth Daily Echo, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough look set to miss out on Jordon Ibe as the Bournemouth winger is reluctant to move too far north at the end of this transfer window.
Both the Magpies and Jonathan Woodgate’s men have reportedly looked at making a move for the former Liverpool man, who, according to BBC Sport, cost £15 million when he moved to the Vitality Stadium.
The Bournemouth Daily Echo reports that Ibe has one year on his contract, so it would not be a huge surprise if Eddie Howe’s men were willing to let him go.
However, the report notes that he is not keen to move too far north, seemingly ruling both Newcastle and Boro out of the running to land the 23-year-old before the window closes on Thursday.
While Ibe is still young and has the potential to develop, it would not be a huge surprise if the majority of Newcastle fans were quite pleased that Steve Bruce looks set to miss out on the wide-man.
He has struggled to live up to the eight-figure fee that Bournemouth spent on him and has only shown glimpses of his quality during his time with the Cherries. Had he been available for a low fee, it may have been worth the risk, but it is probably not the kind of missed opportunity that the Toon Army will be expecting to kick themselves over in the coming months.
