Report: Jordan Pickford to be offered new contract by Everton

Everton are reportedly putting plans in place to tie Jordan Pickford down amid talk that he is attracting interest from elsewhere.

According to a report from The Times, Everton are planning to offer Jordan Pickford a new contract at Goodison Park this summer as he continues to attract attention from elsewhere.

Pickford was the Toffees’ standout performer during an underwhelming campaign last season following his £30 million move from Sunderland. And his stock rose significantly over the summer as he helped England reach the semi-finals of the World Cup, proving to be the hero on a couple of occasions, including during the penalty shootout win over Colombia.

The Times reports that Chelsea have been linked with a potential move for the 24-year-old, but Everton have no plans to sell the stopper and will instead move to try and get him tied down to an improved deal.

The Times suggests that Pickford’s current deal at Goodison Park has four years left to run, but the Toffees plan to offer him terms that reflect how his stock has risen over the last year.

It would be a huge boost for the Merseyside outfit if they manage to get Pickford to agree to a new deal. He was superb last season and may have found a new level of confidence after proving to be so influential in Russia, especially after he faced some criticism during the early stages of the competition which many would have deemed to be unfair anyway.

And with Everton’s pre-season results not exactly going to plan, it would be a timely lift for Marco Silva’s men if Pickford decided to make it clear that he has absolutely no intention of heading elsewhere and wants to pen fresh terms with the Toffees.
