Report: Jonny Howson set for Middlesbrough medical, Leeds to miss out

Middlesbrough will beat Leeds and Sunderland to midfielder Jonny Howson.

According to The Sun, Middlesbrough are set to win the race to sign Norwich City midfielder Jonny Howson.

Howson is due to undergo a medical today as he closes on a £5 million switch.

Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk has seen off competition from former club Leeds United, who wanted to bring the midfielder back to Elland Road.

The Mail had claimed just a fortnight ago that Leeds had made an approach to Norwich to try and sign their former captain.

Leeds have recently signed midfielder Mateusz Klich and yesterday added Vurnon Anita, who can play at full-back and in midfield.

SkySports reported how Monk tried to beat Leeds to sign Klich, and now he has evened the score by appearing to win the race for Howson.

The Teeside Gazette reported earlier this week how Howson’s former Leeds manager Simon Grayson was making a late attempt to bring him to Sunderland.

Howson, 29, scored six goals and provided seven assists last season.
