Sunderland are thought to be chasing Burnley striker Jonathan Walters.

Jonathan Walters of Burnley looks on during the pre season friendly match between Preston North End and Burnley at Deepdale on July 25, 2017 in Preston, England.

According to the Chronicle, Sunderland’s top strike target is now Jonathan Walters of Burnley.

Sunderland have been in the market for a new front man, and Walters has now emerged as a name on Chris Coleman’s wishlist.

Sunderland would also like to bring in Liverpool forward Ben Woodburn, but Walters is said to be the North East side’s top target.

Walters is far more experienced than Woodburn, and Coleman feels that the Republic of Ireland international could have a lot to offer at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland are looking for additions up-front, after allowing James Vaughan to leave to join Wigan Athletic.

The Black Cats are currently very short of options in attack, and Coleman knows that strengthening up-front could be crucial if his side are to remain in the Championship.

Sunderland are currently sat at the bottom of the second tier table, and lost their last match 4-0 to Cardiff City.

Walters has barely featured at Burnley this term, playing just five matches across all competitions, and he is yet to hit the back of the net.
