Rangers are set to swoop to bring defender Jon Flanagan to Ibrox.
According to the Daily Record, defender Jon Flanagan is flying out to Spain in order to undergo a medical with Rangers as he nears a reunion with Steven Gerrard.
The Gers have tied up five new signings this summer with Allan McGregor, Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson, Scott Arfield and Ovie Ejaria all arriving at Ibrox, whilst loan winger Jamie Murphy made his move permanent.
New manager Steven Gerrard remains in the market for new signings, and he looks to be closing in on yet another new face ahead of the club’s Europa League qualification campaign.
Speculation over the last 24 hours have linked Rangers with a move for defender Jon Flanagan, and the Daily Record report this afternoon that a deal is now on the verge of completion.
It’s claimed that full back Flanagan will fly out to Rangers’ training camp in Spain for a medical, and will put pen-to-paper on a deal to not only join the Gers but also reunite with Gerrard.
Flanagan played alongside new Rangers boss Gerrard with Liverpool, and particularly impressed in the 2013-14 campaign under Brendan Rodgers – who is of course now Celtic manager.
Flanagan has struggled with injuries over the last four years, playing just 28 times, and he spent the second half of last season out on loan with Bolton Wanderers.
Primarily a right back who can also play at left back, the 25-year-old was released by Liverpool earlier this month, and will now join Rangers as a free agent to offer cover behind James Tavernier.
