The Aston Villa assistant manager, John Terry, has already rejected chances to speak to Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion before emerging as a Derby County target, according to The Times.
Terry could be one of those to whom Derby turn should his close friend and former Chelsea teammate, Frank Lampard, quit to become the new Blues boss.
But the Rams may have to produce something special to prise the ex-England captain away from Aston Villa, given the alleged failures of Middlesbrough and West Brom.
Boro recently hired their former defender Jonathan Woodgate, with West Brom appointing Slaven Bilic shortly after.
Terry was part of Dean Smith’s Aston Villa backroom team at Wembley last month, as Derby were beaten 2-1 and pipped to the Premier League.
Villa also beat West Brom en route to the play-off final, after Middlesbrough surrendered their long-held top-six spot late in the campaign.
