John Terry’s contract with Aston Villa expires at the end of the season, but he may be tempted to stay with the Championship side for another year.

Terry surprised many by deciding to join the Championship side following the end of his long association with Chelsea, and he has turned into a fantastic signing for the Villans, forming a brilliant partnership with James Chester that has helped Steve Bruce’s side put themselves right in the mix for the play-off places this season.

Terry’s deal expires in the summer however. The Telegraph reports that his future could be decided by what division Villa are playing in next year, but promotion to the Premier League would make it almost inevitable that he would stay for another season.
The Telegraph adds that talks are scheduled for May, so clearly, the plan is to assess the situation once it is decided what level the club will be playing at next season.

Keeping JT would be a massive boost for Villa
Terry may be into the twilight of his career and may not be as influential as he was during his best days at Chelsea, but he has adapted his game and is enjoying a very good spell with Villa.
Bruce has got an exciting blend of youth and experience at his disposal right now, and players such as Terry will be hugely important if they get themselves back into the top flight at the end of this season as he will be able to help the transition run smoother.
The Telegraph’s hint that promotion may end up having to be a must if Villa want to keep Terry could prove however, to be an agonising double blow for the Villans if they just fall short, given that they would not only have to prepare for their third successive season in the second tier, but they may have to do it without the centre-back.
