According to the Daily Star, Manchester City defender John Stones has turned down a move to Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day.

It’s claimed that Jose Mourinho was interested in taking Stones to North London in order to try and resurrect his career.

However, Stones has allegedly rejected the move as he is reluctant to move his family down to London any time soon.

Stones won’t commit to leaving until Pep Guardiola tells him he isn’t wanted at the Etihad Stadium – and that hasn’t happened yet.

Mourinho turned to Stones after failing to land Milan Skriniar or Antonio Rudiger, but Spurs haven’t managed to land him either.

The 26-year-old was backed for stardom at Everton, but he has mostly blown hot and cold at City, failing to really show consistent defensive solidity.

An England international with 39 caps to his name, Stones is quick and capable on the ball, but it’s somewhat surprising to hear that Mourinho wanted him given his defensive deficiencies.

Spurs now appear to be going for Joe Rodon instead, moving on from Stones by targeting the Swansea City man ahead of the deadline.
