Sunderland had been eyeing a move for the former Norwich City man, who now appears Wolverhampton Wanderers bound instead.

John Ruddy has jumped at the chance to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers, The Sun reports.

The once-capped England goalkeeper is a free agent after leaving Norwich City earlier this summer, and is said to have been a target for Sunderland – as reported exclusively by HITC Sport on Thursday.

Sunderland had been in the market for a new number one following Jordan Pickford’s £30 million transfer to Everton. However, it is now claimed that Wolves moved fast to secure Ruddy’s signature, amid the shock news of Carl Ikeme’s acute leukaemia diagnosis.

Ruddy recently admitted an interest in joining Wolves’ local rivals Aston Villa [Daily Mirror], though it appears he will instead link up with former Norwich teammate Ryan Bennett at Molineux.

30-year-old Ruddy spent seven years at Norwich and made just shy of 250 Canaries appearances.

Wolves are also said to be closing in on the signings of FC Porto pair Ruben Neves and Willy Boly, though in light of the Ikeme news the club has confirmed it will not make any significant announcements today [Friday].
