Aston Villa are said to have ‘beaten off’ interest from Celtic to sign the midfielder.

John McGinn is in Birmingham for a medical ahead of £2.1 million move to Aston Villa, according to the Daily Mirror’s live blog (Tuesday 7th August, 11:29).
The newspaper claims Aston Villa have ‘beaten off’ interest from Celtic to sign the Hibernian midfielder, who it adds could become the second of four new faces to arrive at Villa Park this week.
The Villans have already secured defender Axel Tuanzebe on a season-long loan from Manchester United, while deals for Orjan Nyland, the Ingolstadt goalkeeper, and Joe Bryan, the Bristol City full-back, are also said to be in the offing.
McGinn, 23, is widely regarded as one of Scottish football’s top prospects and looked for a long time like becoming a future Celtic player.

The Glaswegian grew up a Celtic supporter, while his grandfather, Jack, is a former Bhoys chairman.
But Aston Villa beckons for McGinn, according to the Daily Mirror – barely a fortnight after Sky Sports claimed Hibernian had turned down an offer of £2 million from Celtic.
