Mark Warburton had initially suspended the Glasgow Rangers midfielder for three weeks, but it appears that it will now be longer.
Joey Barton
The Scottish Sun has claimed that Joey Barton’s exile from the Rangers training ground is set to continue as he will not return to the club this week.
The Guardian reported back in mid-September that the 34-year-old had been suspended for three weeks following an altercation with teammate Andy Halliday.
The altercation came in the wake of Rangers’ Old Firm defeat
But while those three weeks are coming to an end, The Scottish Sun reports that his Ibrox future has now been plunged into more doubt.
The Scottish Sun adds that the plan had been for the controversial midfielder to hold crisis talks with Rangers manager Mark Warburton, but it now appears that his representatives will be the ones turning up at Murray Park as they sort the paperwork that will lead to a settlement.

While some may have expected Barton to go in and apologise – and perhaps use the recent events to motivate him to discover his best form out on the pitch – this latest update does suggest that the writing is well and truly on the wall for the former Premier League man.
As well as the incident that led to his exile, the Rangers midfielder has now been charged by the SFA for breaching betting regulations (via The Scottish Sun). The Scottish Sun adds that internal disciplinary procedures have been initiated by the club.
And with his performances out on the pitch since moving to Ibrox proving nowhere near as noteworthy, it is difficult to see any way back for Barton.
