Sunderland reportedly failed with moves for Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere last month.
Sunderland manager David Moyes
According to The Guardian, England internationals Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere both snubbed moves to Sunderland last month.
Sunderland’s season has got off to a dreadful start, as they have picked up just one point from their opening six games – and Saturday’s defeat to Crystal Palace was particularly tough to swallow.
Having been 2-0 up through two Jermain Defoe goals, Sunderland collapsed to eventually lose 3-2 with a Christian Benteke header in added time handing Palace the win.

The squad at David Moyes’ disposal clearly isn’t good enough, but given that the transfer window closed almost a month ago, there isn’t a great deal that Moyes can do to add to his squad other than sign free agents.
Moyes will have been a little disappointed with the club’s summer transfer business, and reports suggest that he missed out on signing two members of England’s Euro 2016 squad on deadline day.
England’s Joe Hart
The Guardian report that Sunderland attempted to land goalkeeper Joe Hart and midfielder Jack Wilshere on loan from Manchester City and Arsenal respectively, in a bid to give both players some first-team football.
However, both players snubbed the Black Cats, with Hart choosing to head on a season-long loan to Italy with Torino instead, whilst Wilshere joined Bournemouth on loan for the season.
Bournemouth’s Jack Wilshere
Sunderland have had problems in goal with Vito Mannone out injured, and Hart would have provided a superb option for Moyes, whilst Wilshere would’ve brought the quality that Sunderland lack in midfield.
Ultimately though, both players felt that better opportunities were presented away from the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland’s perennial fight against relegation potentially damaging their ambitious attempts to sign established England internationals.
