According to The Chronicle, Jetro Willems has rejected a new contract with Eintracht Frankfurt – and wants to re-join Newcastle United.

It’s claimed that Frankfurt want Willems to sign a new deal given that he can walk away for free at the end of the season.

However, the left back has indicated that he won’t be signing a new contract, and wants to move on for free when his contract ends next summer.

Willems seemingly has a return to Newcastle in mind, with his agent Sigi Lens suggesting that he would be ‘happy’ to rejoin the club.

Lens added that Willems is now fully fit and ready to play having suffered a major knee injury with Newcastle back in January of this year.

Willems, 26, impressed on loan at Newcastle last season, bagging two goals and two assists in 19 Premier League games for the Magpies.

Newcastle did splash the cash on a left back over the summer, as Jamal Lewis came in from Norwich City and has performed well this season.

Adding Dutchman Willems as experienced cover on the cheap or even for free could be ideal though, and Newcastle are surely paying attention to his contract situation.
