According to the Daily Mail, Burnley boss Sean Dyche could be tempted by a move to Aston Villa this summer – but Jesus Garcia Pitarch is in danger of losing his job.
It’s claimed that Dean Smith’s future as Villa boss is in doubt, even though the club intend to stick by him at least until the end of the season.
Dyche has admirers at Villa, and he would allegedly be interested in the move ‘under the right circumstances’ – which surely includes Villa staying up.
Dyche has been at Burnley for nearly eight years now, but there have been murmurings of a fractured relationship with chairman Mike Garlick, which would lead to Dyche seeking a new challenge.
Dropping into the Championship wouldn’t make sense for such an impressive Premier League manager though, so surely Dyche wouldn’t head to Villa Park if Villa go down.
As for sporting director Garcia Pitarch – known as ‘Suso’ – is fighting for his job, and it’s allegedly ‘inevitable’ that the Spaniard will leave this summer.
Some of Suso’s signings have caused concern, as he focused on the foreign market despite Smith wanting England-based signings like Said Benrahma, Neal Maupay and Kalvin Phillips.
When Smith was given the lead on transfers, he brought in Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa – two of Villa’s better signings from the 2019 crop.
Suso may now pay with his job, and Villa would seemingly target a homegrown sporting director in his place having failed to impress with the foreign angle.
