Newcastle United hope to tie up a deal for the Atletico Madrid defender this week.

According to the Mirror, Jesus Gamez is set to undergo a medical at Newcastle United today as they look to push through his move from Atletico Madrid.
The Magpies have already completed three signings in this transfer window as Rafa Benitez reshapes his squad.
They brought in Mats Selz, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle to the club last week and is now looking to make Gamez his fourth capture.

The player had been interesting Premier League duo Everton and West Ham, but Rafa Benitez has convinced him to join his side in the Championship.
The Chronicle reported yesterday that they were hoping to have him on Tyneside this week as they sought to seal his move in quick fashion.
And it seems they managed to do just that, with the player set to take part in his medical this afternoon according to the Mirror.

They also report that the deal will completed before the end of the week as Benitez appears to want to get the bulk of his signings done early in the window.
He could be the first of several defensive recruits to be added to the squad, with Fabricio Coloccini’s departure in particular leaving a gap that needs filling in the defence.
