Leeds Live reporter Beren Cross has reported that manager Jesse Marsch was frustratedly ‘screaming’ at midfielder Mateusz Klich during the 1-0 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday afternoon – around the hour mark.
Klich, 31, started against Leicester on Saturday as Marsch named a side similar to the kind of side that Marcelo Bielsa often used. Robin Koch deputised for the injured Kalvin Phillips, alongside Poland star Klich.
The most-notable decision was to keep Adam Forshaw on the bench, with Rodrigo coming in as a 10. The change from man marking to zonal marking also helped, as Leeds produced a very admirable performance.
Harvey Barnes’ goal was the difference but with five winnable games coming up, Leeds will take plenty of positives. Marsch, though, was frustrated at Klich during the second half as he failed to close down.
“In the 59th minute, there was a moment where Leicester had the ball near halfway with nobody in white pressing,” Cross reported. “Marsch, bent over and pointing, was screaming for Klich to apply pressure. It wasn’t coming.”
Marsch screams at Klich: Leeds ace might be axed when Phillips returns
Klich has been a consistent part of the side this season, but with Kalvin Phillips returns from injury – it is likely that Klich might drop out. Alongside Stuart Dallas, or Forshaw perhaps, Leeds have a brilliant base in midfield.
For now, and especially when Leeds take on Villa on Thursday night at Elland Road, Klich is likely to remain in the side. It might even be an unchanged side – but we will learn more when Marsch speaks to the press.
