With Sunderland looking to move on ahead of the new season, Jeremain Lens is finally headed for the exit door.
Jeremain Lens looks set to finally depart Sunderland in the coming days, with the Sunderland Echo reporting that Besiktas have belatedly agreed a deal for the winger.
Sky Sports reported an initial failed bid last week, suggesting the Black Cats were holding out for a higher fee – and the Turkish club now look to have met the asking price.
The report claims Lens will now head to Turkey for a medical before signing a deal with Besiktas, having been on loan at Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce last season.
Lens scored four goals in 26 Super Lig games last term, having failed to impress in the previous campaign with Sunderland after a big-money move.
The Netherlands international has returned to form in pre-season, scoring four times for Simon Grayson’s side, but the Black Cats now need to move forward ahead of their Championship opener against Derby County on Friday.
Uncertainty over Lens’ situation has not helped over a difficult few weeks – Sunderland were thrashed 5-0 by Celtic on Saturday – and, with his future resolved, Grayson will hope to reinvest the fee.
The same report suggests Sunderland will now go after another forward, with Ross McCormack on the radar as Grayson looks for proven firepower.
