Newcastle United have missed out to West Bromwich Albion in the race to sign Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez.
According to a report in the Telegraph, Jay Rodriguez wants to sign for West Bromwich Albion with the Southampton forward edging closer to a move to the Hawthorns.
West Brom and Southampton are in discussions over a £12 million switch for the 27-year-old.

West Brom appear to have beaten off competition from Newcastle United to sign Rodriguez, who is keen to move to the Midlands club.
West Brom have been attempted to sign Rodriguez for over a year, and the Baggies’ persistence is said to have impressed the attacker.
Southampton have decided that the time is right to allow Rodriguez to leave St. Mary’s, and there are not expected to be any last minute complications in the deal.

Rodriguez did look to have the world at his feet at Southampton, but a succession of injury problems have halted his progress and knocked him down the pecking order.
At West Brom, the one-time England international will be in competition with the likes of Salomon Rondon and Hal Robson-Kanu for a first-team place.
