Charlton could face competition from Wigan Athletic for O’Shea, who helped Sheffield United to the League One title this season.
Ex-Sheffield United loanee Jay O’Shea
Jay O’Shea could be a target for Charlton Athletic after turning down a new contract at Sheffield United, according to Kent Live.
O’Shea helped the Blades to the League One title this season, on loan from local rivals Chesterfield.
However, the 28-year-old has opted against signing a two-year permanent deal at Bramall Lane and will be a free agent when his stay at the Proact Stadium comes to an end next month.
Having said that, O’Shea is unlikely to have a shortage of suitors, with Wigan Athletic a potential destination if Portsmouth’s Paul Cook takes over as manager, according to the Sheffield Star.
But it seems that Cook, who worked with the Irish midfielder at Chesterfield, is the only former boss keen on a deal.
Charlton’s Karl Robinson, who signed O’Shea for MK Dons in 2011 may also have his eye on a reunion this summer, reports Kent Live.

Robinson’s side are looking to mount a promotion push next term and O’Shea, who has scored or made 58 goals in 163 games at League One level, could be the perfect Addicks recruit.
Charlton’s Ricky Holmes, one of Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder’s former players, was linked with a move in the opposite direction last week, although the London side are confident of keeping the 29-year-old at the Valley, according to London News Online.
