Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the Netherlands international.
According to a report from Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Vincent Janssen will be officially announced as a Tottenham Hotspur player today.
That is something Spurs fans have expected for some time given the continual reports, but perhaps most interestingly is the claim that the striker’s weekly wage will depend in large part on the number of matches he appears in.
That is a masterstroke from Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, ensuring a player who will know competition for places is tough in North London hits the ground running in order to cement a regular starting spot at White Hart Lane.
The expectation is that Janssen will play alongside Harry Kane rather than competing with the England international for a starting berth, but it would be no surprise to see Tottenham bring in another forward before the transfer window closes, such was their overreliance on Kane last season, and Mauricio Pochettino’s formation of choice will also depend on their opponents.
Janssen was a huge hit in the Netherlands last season. However, as we have seen in the past that top Eredivisie strikers do not always replicate that form in the Premier League.
Janssen will know that performing well and playing regularly could be the difference between £8.4million and £12.6million during his initial five years at the club, and for that reason, along with his willingness to succeed in England, expect fireworks from the outset.
