West Ham United are reportedly keen on Borussia Monchengladbach’s Jannik Vestergaard.
According to ESPN, West Ham United are considering a bid for Borussia Monchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard as they continue pursuing another centre back.
The Hammers have brought in one centre back this summer having secured a big-money move for Toulouse star Issa Diop, but Manuel Pellegrini and co seemingly want another option signed.
Winston Reid’s future is in doubt, whilst James Collins has already gone and Declan Rice is not only wanted elsewhere, but could yet move into a midfield role.
A host of centre backs have been linked with the club, including Alfie Mawson, Marlon Santos, Armando Izzo and Craig Dawson, and whilst those four appeared to be the top targets, one player has emerged as a late candidate in the centre back pursuit.
ESPN report that West Ham are considering a move to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard, though will have to move quickly given that Everton and Southampton have allegedly ‘launched bids’ already.
Vestergaard, 25, was in the ranks of Brondby in his native Denmark before moving on to Hoffenheim in 2010, and he has spent his career in Germany, moving onto Werder Bremen in 2015 and then Gladbach a year later.
The left-footed centre back stands at a gigantic 6ft 7in tall, possessing exceptional strength and aerial ability, which could be appealing alongside another giant defender in Diop at the London Stadium.
Vestergaard is currently at the World Cup with Denmark, offering cover to Simon Kjaer and Andreas Christensen, but may yet earn a big move upon his return from Russia this summer.
