Southampton are reportedly nearing the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard.

According to ESPN, Borussia Monchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard will undergo a medical with Southampton today ahead of completing a move to the South Coast.
The Saints have already brought in two new signings this summer having landed midfielder Stuart Armstrong and winger Mohamed Elyounoussi from Celtic and Basel respectively, but Mark Hughes has also been pursuing a defender.
Southampton sold Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool in January, and whilst Hughes does have the likes of Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens, Jan Bednarek and Wesley Hoedt at his disposal, another centre back looks set to arrive.
Recent speculation has strongly linked Southampton with a move to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard, and ESPN now report that he will undergo a medical with Southampton today ahead of sealing his move.
Vestergaard stands at a giant 6ft 7in tall and possesses great strength as well as aerial ability, and spent the summer at the World Cup with Denmark, backing up Simon Kjaer and Andreas Christensen.

The 25-year-old has spent most of his career in Germany with Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach, where he made 32 league appearances last season, scoring three goals.
It’s claimed that Everton and West Ham United were among the Premier League teams keen to sign the giant centre back, but Southampton have swooped in to land him ahead of their top flight rivals.
