Frank Lampard has pulled out of the running for the Newcastle United managerial role, according to The Mirror.
What’s the story?
The Mirror have reported that Lampard has been among the candidates for the Newcastle managerial job.
Co-owner Jamie Reuben has been backing for the appointment of former Chelsea boss Lampard.
On the other hand, Amanda Staveley wants Paulo Fonseca to be Steve Bruce’s permanent successor at Newcastle.
It seems that Staveley has got her way.
The Mirror are reporting that former AS Roma head coach Fonseca is now set to take charge of Newcastle.

Frank Lampard to Newcastle (was) unlikely
Now, of course, we have to keep it in mind that this is just one publication’s report about Lampard.
Other media outlets may have other inside information about the Englishman.
So, do not be surprised if you read a new report tomorrow or on Monday claiming that the former Derby County boss is still in the running for the Newcastle job.

In our view, it was always unlikely that Lampard would get the Newcastle job.
Yes, the Englishman is a very good manager and one of the greatest players of all time.
But, Newcastle are in a relegation battle at the moment and need a manager who can steer them clear.
