Hanson spent the latter half of last season on loan at Wigan and impressed despite the Latics’ eventual relegation from the Championship.

The Lancashire club have lost fellow central midfielder Lee Evans to Sheffield United already this month and fear that Sam Morsy could also be on his way due to interest in the Egypt international.

Therefore they want to bring Hanson back to the DW Stadium on a permanent basis, with the 22-year-old having struggled for game time at Derby so far this term and is out of contract in the summer.

The midfielder’s substitute appearance during the 2-0 FA Cup third round defeat to Manchester United is his only first team showing to date for the Rams in 2017/18.

Bolton are also interested in Hanson as they look to move further away from the relegation zone in the second tier of English football, but currently a return to Wigan appears to be the most likely outcome.
