2016 Premier League champions Leicester City were expected to sign Jamie Fielding from Isthmian League outfit Hastings United.

Jamie Fielding has rejected a move to Leicester City in order to sign for Stevenage instead, according to TEAMtalk.

A talented centre-back who joined Hastings after rising through the ranks at Eastbourne Borough, Fielding was expected to join the 2016 Premier League champions this summer.

TEAMtalk reported in April that Leicester had opened talks with Isthmian League outfit Hastings with the 19-year-old seemingly set to follow in the footsteps of Jamie Vardy by jumping from Non-League to the King Power Stadium.

But rather than play reserve team football with The Foxes, Fielding has taken the rather surprising decision that he would be better off at Stevenage instead – despite Brendan Rodgers’ fine record when it comes to promoting young players.

According to TEAMtalk, Fielding has agreed a deal with Stevenage, who finished tenth in the League Two table last season. It is not known how much the fourth-tier outfit will need to pay for a player who has impressed with his leadership skills despite his tender years.

With Rodgers already giving plenty of game time to academy graduate Hamza Choudhury since taking charge of Leicester, time will tell whether Fielding comes to regret his decision.
