Barnsley’s Paul Heckingbottom is poised to become Leeds United manager.
According to The Guardian, Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom will bring Jamie Clapham to Leeds United with him once his move is confirmed.
Leeds sacked manager Thomas Christiansen on Sunday evening after a 4-1 home defeat to Cardiff City, bringing an end to his eight-month spell at Elland Road.
Andrea Radrizzani is moving quickly to land his replacement, with Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom in line to take the job inside the next 24 hours.
Jamie Clapham
It’s now claimed that Heckingbottom is already planning on early move, as he is expected to bring Barnsley first team coach Jamie Clapham to Elland Road with him.
Elland Road return
Clapham’s expected move to Leeds means he will be returning to Elland Road, having enjoyed a three-month loan spell with the Whites during the 2007-08 season.
A former left back, Clapham played 13 games for Leeds before returning to Wolverhampton Wanders, whilst he also had successful spells with Ipswich Town and Birmingham City.
Heckingbottom will be delighted to have brought in somebody he is so familiar with, having worked with Clapham at Barnsley since September 2016, immediately setting up his staff at Elland Road.
Add in that Clapham knows all about Leeds having played for the club, and this appears to be a no-brainer move for all parties – though Barnsley won’t be impressed with the additional upheaval.
