Rangers target James Vaughan wants to hold talks over his future next week.
Birmingham’s James Vaughan looks dejected
According to the Daily Mail, Birmingham City striker James Vaughan is a target for Rangers – and he wants to discuss his future with manager Gary Rowett next week.
Vaughan, 27, joined Birmingham from Huddersfield Town initially on loan last season before penning a full-time deal, even though he failed to score for the Blues in 16 appearances last season.
The ex-England Under-21 international signed a one-year deal which activates when his Huddersfield contract expires later this month, but the Birmingham-born striker may not be featuring for the Blues next season.
The Daily Mail report that Vaughan wants talks with Birmingham manager Gary Rowett about his future when he returns for pre-season training next week, given that Rangers are keen to sign the player.
Mark Warburton’s side are keen to land a new striker to offer some support to leading goalscorers Martyn Waghorn and Kenny Miller, and Vaughan has been recommended to the Gers boss by assistant boss David Weir.
Weir and Vaughan played together at Everton, and whilst Vaughan’s career has been damaged by injuries, it seems that the Rangers legend hasn’t forgotten just how promising Vaughan was when he burst onto the scene in 2005.
Vaughan now appears to have had his head turned by a possible move to Ibrox, and wants to speak to manager Rowett next week to clarify whether he has a future at St. Andrews.
Having failed to score for Birmingham last season, Rowett may be willing to let Vaughan leave this summer – and Rangers appear to be at the front of the queue for his services should he become available for transfer in the coming weeks.
