Rangers have been linked with bringing James Lawrence to Ibrox.
According to the Daily Record, Anderlecht defender James Lawrence is interested in a move back to Britain amid links with a move to Rangers.
Lawrence, 26, started out his career in England with Arsenal and QPR, but has since moved to the Netherlands with HFC Haarlem, Ajax, Sparta Rotterdam and RKC Waalwijk, Slovakia with AS Trencin and now Belgium with Anderlecht.
Last season, Lawrence found out that he qualified to play for Wales, and he has now earned five caps for Ryan Giggs’ side, attracting interest.
It’s now claimed that, with Rangers looking to sign him in a £3million deal, Lawrence is thought to be keen on a move back to Britain, with Stoke City and Swansea City also in the mix.
Capable of playing at centre back, left back and in holding midfield, Lawrence would be a versatile defensive option for Rangers, but whether Steven Gerrard is actually keen is unclear.
The Daily Record are adamant that Rangers have made enquiries about signing Lawrence, but The Scottish Sun cite Ibrox sources, who suggest that Lawrence isn’t on the radar at all.
With Oldham youngster George Edmundson on the way in to compete with Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic, Rangers should be in the market for an experienced centre back to replace Gareth McAuley’s veteran presence.
Lawrence has been on the books of some huge clubs, but spending £3million on a defender who may not even start ahead of Goldson and Katic may not be the best idea, whilst his recent struggles with Wales should be worrisome too.
