Could Newcastle United ultimately seal a deal for the Norwich City youngster?

According to a report from the Chronicle, Norwich City winger Jacob Murphy is open to a move to Newcastle United this summer, with a compromise deal possible despite the Canaries’ high demands.

The 22-year-old is said to be on the Magpies’ wish list and is keen on working with the club’s manager Rafa Benitez.

Up to now the two sides have been miles apart when it comes to a potential transfer fee, with Newcastle willing to pay £8million and Norwich holding out for around double that. But the Chronicle claims there could be some room for negotiation and Magpies fans will be hoping that is the case given their struggles so far this summer.

It took far longer than initially hoped to get a deal for defender Florian Lejeune over the line, while Christian Atsu’s permanent switch has long been agreed.

Murphy would be an impressive long-term investment; a player who could flourish at St. James’ Park and go on to star for his country. That said, Norwich are well aware of the player’s ability and will not sell him on the cheap.

It remains to be seen exactly how much the Canaries would be willing to compromise, if at all, but if Newcastle come back in with a bid of around £12million it could be enough to get the two parties to the table.

Newcastle impressed in the Championship last time out. However Benitez will know they need plenty of sensible additions to challenge at the right end of the Premier League from the outset.
