According to The Chronicle, Rangers still want to sign Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy – but he is keen to open talks over a new contract.
It’s claimed that the Gers are interested in luring Murphy to Ibrox, having looked into signing him over the summer.
However, Newcastle want to hold on to Murphy, and he is keen to start talks over a new contract too, with negotiations surely imminent.
Murphy is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning Rangers could yet sign him to a pre-contract agreement in just over a week’s time.
From January 1st, non-English clubs can offer Murphy a pre-contract deal, so Rangers’ interest is a major threat to Newcastle’s hopes of keeping him.
Unless they can sort out a new deal with Murphy inside the next 10 days or so, Newcastle leave themselves open to losing the man they paid £12million to sign in 2017.

Murphy has emerged into a right-wing back role this season, starting five Premier League games and making an additional two substitute appearances whilst picking up a goal and an assist.
The 25-year-old will be hoping to have his future settled sooner rather than later, and Rangers will be watching his situation very closely.
