According to The Daily Star, Jacob Murphy is posed to join Championship club West Bromwich Albion on loan from Premier League outfit Newcastle United on January transfer deadline day.

A recent report on Teesside Live stated that West Brom’s Championship rivals Middlesbrough are optimistic of securing the services of the 23-year-old former Norwich City winger (click here to read more).

West Bromwich Albion or Middlesbrough?

Both West Brom and Middlesbrough are ambitious clubs in the Championship who are aiming to win automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The Baggies, though, play more attacking football than Tony Pulis’s Middlesbrough do, and Murphy will be better off at The Hawthorns.

Manager Darren Moore has implemented an attacking philosophy at West Brom, and the 23-year-old will enjoy his football more at the Baggies.

Newcastle United struggles

Murphy has struggled to make a big impact at Newcastle since his move from Norwich City in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Telegraph to be worth £12 million.

The 23-year-old winger has made three starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Magpies so far this season, providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.

During the 2017-18 campaign, the youngster made 13 starts and 12 substitute appearances in the Premier League for Rafael Benitez’s side, according to WhoScored.
