The Arsenal midfielder is reportedly set to leave Bournemouth once his loan expires at the end of the season. Could Newcastle United tempt him to make a move North?

According to a report by Dean Jones of Bleacher Report, Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere has no plans to make his stay at Bournemouth permanent in the summer, as the young England international searches for a home for consistent first team football.

After surprising many by making the move to the South Coast in the summer, plenty expected Jack Wilshere to be Bournemouth’s standout player this season. But the reality has been far from this.

It wasn’t until Wilshere’s sixth appearance for Bournemouth, which came up against his parent club’s biggest rivals Tottenham Hotspur, that the player completed 90 minutes. Playing in the number ten role, one in which he has wanted to be given more of a chance in at Arsenal, the young midfielder looked comfortable and confident.

However, over the last month or so, performances have taken a significant dip. After poor games against Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion, the midfielder was dropped by Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, and most recently made just a 15-minute cameo against Swansea City.

And now, with Wilshere not set to extend his stay with the Cherries, the Arsenal man could well find himself looking for a new club in the summer. But could Newcastle United offer a lifeline? Rafa Benitez’s side look set to return to the Premier League in the summer, and will be looking to add players with experience to their squad as they look to cement their place in England’s top flight.

Often playing either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-2, Benitez’s Newcastle United operate best when they have the ball in the centre of the midfield, moving it around quickly thanks to the running of players like Isaac Hayden and Jack Colback, and the passing of Jonjo Shelvey. As a runner, and someone with great skill with the ball at his feet, Jack Wilshere could well slot into this Newcastle side nicely.
