The reported Sunderland target has been told he can leave Burnley.

Jack Ross wants Burnley’s Jonathan Walters to be his first Sunderland signing, according to the Daily Mirror (June 1st, page 56).
Walters only moved to Burnley in £3 million deal from Stoke City last summer, but only played 95 minutes of first team football..

The Republic of Ireland striker admitted this week he has been told he can leave Turf Moor after entering the final year of his contract
And Burnley are said to be seeking £2 million for Walters, despite him turning 35 in three months’ time.
However, it is claimed that Ross, the newly appointed Sunderland manager, will not be put off by the Premier League side’s demands.

Sunderland were taken over by Oxford businessman Stewart Donald last week, and have been promised a ‘hefty’ budget as they look to secure an instant return to the Championship.
