According to a report in the Sunderland Echo, Jack Ross has called Bali Mumba up to Sunderland’s first-team for training this summer.

Mumba is still only 16-years-old, but he was handed first-team opportunities towards the end of last season.

And Ross has been eager to keep the youngster with Sunderland’s senior squad, in the hope of improving the striker.

Whether Mumba will be handed the chance to lead the line for Sunderland next season remains to be seen, but he could get game time over pre-season.

Sunderland’s progress in the transfer market has been slow, and the Wearsiders are still looking to strengthen up-front.

Although Ross has brought in Chris Maguire, Sunderland have struggled to land any of their other strike targets to date.

At the moment Mumba appears to be in competition with fellow prospect Josh Maja for a starting place.

Sunderland begin their pre-season with a friendly against Darlington later this evening.
