Everton have reportedly invited Jack Rodwell back to training.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton have allowed Jack Rodwell to train with the club as he looks to maintain his fitness this summer.
The Toffees had big news earlier today, announcing the signing of Barcelona left back Lucas Digne, with the Frenchman become their second summer signing, following Richarlison to Goodison Park.
Everton may still be in the market for new signings, and did have a new face in training today, but the player in question seemingly won’t be signing for the club on a permanent basis.
The Liverpool Echo report that Everton have allowed Jack Rodwell to return to the club, and the midfielder will train with the club’s Under-23’s to maintain his fitness levels.
Rodwell, 27, came up through the Everton ranks and became a first-team star with the Toffees, scoring eight goals in 109 games before making a £12million move to Manchester City in 2012 (BBC Sport).
The midfielder struggled to make an impact with City, and was subsequently sold on to Sunderland in the summer of 2014, with the intention of getting his career back on track with first-team football.

However, injuries plagued Rodwell at Sunderland – as they have for much of his career – and he was seen as one of the club’s most expensive flops of all time before being released this summer.
Rodwell will be looking for a new club and has already been on trial with Watford, but will now return to Everton for training, though it’s made clear that Rodwell won’t be signed by Everton, and is only back with the club for fitness.
