According to The Independent, Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic is desperate to sign for Manchester United – but the £50million asking price on his head is a stumbling block.

United finished sixth in the Premier League last season but did qualify for next season’s Champions League by winning the Europa League, with manager Jose Mourinho now looking to boost his squad.

The Red Devils have already snapped up Swedish international defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica, but Mourinho may now turn his attention to landing a new winger.

Anthony Martial blew hot and cold last season and Henrikh Mkhitaryan only showed glimpses of his quality, whilst Marcus Rashford is better used in attack, with Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard also available at Mourinho’s disposal.

Now, The Independent report that United are continuing to pursue a deal for Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic – but ‘absolutely’ will not pay their £50million asking price for the Croatian international.

Perisic, 28, hit 13 goals and 10 assists for Inter last season, and is understood to be ‘desperate’ to sign for United this summer, with the former Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg ace claimed to be waiting for United to strike a deal.

Personal terms may not be an issue with Perisic, but there appears to be a certain level of posturing between the two clubs; Inter believe they have leverage over United as they know Mourinho wants his squad in place by the end of July, whilst United know that Inter have to sell for Financial Fair Play reasons.

£50million for a 28-year-old winger would be ill-advised for United, but with a real goal threat and the defensive work rate that Mourinho loves from his wide men, Perisic may just be ideal for United.
