The Daily Mirror claim Islam Slimani has cost Newcastle United a huge £27,000 a minute as he looks to have already played his last game for the Toon.

Slimani, 29, is likely to be handed a three-match ban by The FA after kicking out at West Bromwich Albion’s Craig Dawson in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to the Baggies at St. James’ Park.

The Algerian powerhouse has managed just four appearances this season for the Toon, with a groin problem preventing him from featuring in black and white on a more regular basis since he joined the club on loan in January.

The former Sporting Lisbon striker has only started one of those four games, culminating in just 130 minutes of action. At a princely £27,000 a minute, Slimani’s £3.5million loan fee has gone completely to waste.

Unable to find the back of the net since joining from Leicester City, Rafa Benitez has relied upon the improved form of Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez, the latter scoring three goals in his last five games.

But Newcastle’s hunt for a striker this summer is sure to go on, with Slimani proving to be little else than a complete waste of owner Mike Ashley’s money.
