The former West Bromwich Albion defender and Walters, the Burnley striker, were teammates at Ipswich Town.

Ipswich Town are close to bringing Jonathan Walters back to Portman Road from Burnley, and are interested in doing likewise with Gareth McAuley, the former West Bromwich Albion defender, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.
Walters, who it is claimed will return on a six-month loan deal, and McAuley left Ipswich eight and seven years ago respectively.
Although considerably older than any of Paul Hurst’s 10 signings as manager of the Tractor Boys – Walters turns 35 next month, while McAuley will be 39 in December – the pair are said to be wanted to add short-term experience to a side which sits bottom of the Championship.
And with 436 Premier League appearances between them, they certainly tick the box.

Walters only moved to Burnley from Stoke City a year ago, while McAuley spent seven years at West Brom before his release at the end of last season.
But the pair struggled for game time last season, with Walters, who has appeared for Burnley in this season’s Europa League, handed only five outings in all competitions – seven fewer than his colleague at West Brom.

Will the Burnley / ex-West Brom players prove good additions for Ipswich?
