Tottenham and Jan Vertonghen are still yet to agree on a new deal. The Belgian will be a free agent soon and a number of clubs are said to be interested in signing him.

Calcio Mercato have claimed that Italian giants Inter Milan and AS Roma are interested in signing Vertonghen but both clubs have different problems regarding the deal.

The report claims that AS Roma are open to signing Vertonghen but they are not prepared to meet the defender’s wage demands.

His next contract will likely be his last big deal and it is no surprise that the Belgian is looking for it to be financially rewarding before he decides to bow out of the game.

Inter Milan, however, aren’t too bothered about his wage demands but a player who Mourinho reportedly wants at Tottenham could spoil the deal for Vertonghen.

The report claims that Inter are only willing to sign Vertonghen if another veteran defender in Diego Godin leaves the club this summer.

The Mirror (15 April, page 49) claimed that Spurs are interested in the Uruguayan who is valued at just £7 million.

The Nerazzurri aren’t prepared to pay big wages to two defenders who are on the wrong side of 30. That should be good news for Tottenham who could now be in a win-win situation.

Inter choosing to stick with Godin could force Vertonghen to extend his current deal at Spurs which will be something that Mourinho would be happy with.

If Inter choose to part ways with Godin, Tottenham can make their move for the former Atletico Madrid skipper who will be a brilliant signing for Mourinho this summer.
