Inter Milan have reportedly made an offer to sign VfB Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa, a player both Manchester City and Tottenham have been chasing this summer.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A giants have made an initial loan offer for the Croatian international with an option to buy, with Inter looking to sign a left-back following reports that Bayer Leverkusen were closing in on a deal to bring Robin Gosens back to Germany.

Sosa has been heavily linked with a move away from Stuttgart this summer after the defender impressed for the Bundesliga side last season, with City and Tottenham both reportedly chasing the left-back, who is believed to be valued in this window at £20m.

However, it is Inter who now look set to sign Sosa, with Simone Inzaghi’s side working on a deal to bring the Croat to the San Siro as a replacement for Gosens should the Germany international move to Leverkusen on loan, though it is unlikely that City and Tottenham will be too disheartened by this deal.

Indeed, both City and Tottenham have improved in the left-back position this summer with the signings of Sergio Gomez and Ivan Perisic respectively, and whilst Sosa would have been a great addition for either Premier League side, neither club will be too frustrated that Inter have won the race for the 24-year-old.

As for Inter, replacing Gosens with Sosa could be a stroke of genius from the Italian giants given how much the 28-year-old has struggled to adapt to life in Milan, and loaning out the German and bringing in a younger player is a great move, overall, for the Nerazzurri.

Sosa was one of the best fullbacks in the Bundesliga last season, and for Inter, the decision to replace Gosens with a player like the Stuttgart talent is a smart move from the Serie A title-contenders, with the Croatian perfect to take the mantle as starting left-wingback.

Whilst Sosa would have been a great addition to the Premier League for City or Tottenham, the defender joining Inter is a fantastic move for the defender, who is signing for a top side ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where the fullback will be crucial for Croatia.
