Inter Milan are reportedly hoping to beat Tottenham to Joachim Andersen.

According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan hope to use their relationship with Sampdoria to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of defender Joachim Andersen.

Andersen, 24, has emerged as one of Serie A’s top centre backs over the last year, particularly starring this season.

The Dane has been linked with a move to Spurs for many months now, and The Independent reported last week that he is ‘likely’ to join the North London club at the end of the season.

However, there could yet be a twist in the tale, as Inter Milan – the club Spurs effectively dumped out of the Champions League and into the Europa League in December – are reportedly attempting to hijack the move and lure Andersen to the San Siro this summer.

It’s claimed that Inter have a strong relationship with Sampdoria, with the likes of Milan Skriniar, Gianluca Caprari, Dodo, Andrea Ranocchia, Mauro Icardi, Federico Bonazzoli, Eder and Jonathan Biabiany all moving between the two clubs in recent years.

Because of that relationship, Inter are hoping to negotiate a deal to sign €25million (£22million) valued Andersen, which may involve Inter players heading to Sampdoria in part-exchange.

Inter going for another centre back is a major shock when Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij are already at the club and Diego Godin is incoming (Sky Sports), but they seemingly feel Andersen is one for the future.

That’s a problem for Spurs, but they can at least sell the idea of Andersen playing more first-team football under Mauricio Pochettino, rather than sitting behind Skriniar, De Vrij and Godin at Inter.
