Everton had allegedly been in talks regarding the 28-year-old but now they appear to have moved on.

According to an exclusive report from Italian website Tutto Mercato Web, Inter Milan have decided they will cash in on Ever Banega this summer but alleged suitors Everton are refusing to bite.

The player is said to be available for £13.1million, but despite Gianluca Di Marzio claiming Banega was among the potential targets discussed by an Everton delegation earlier this month, the latest report suggests Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has turned his attention elsewhere.

The signing of Davy Klaassen could be a major factor, with the 24-year-old occupying the same position on the field as the Argentine, as could the fact that at 28, Banega is no longer the force he once was.

One simply outstanding performance aside, when he scored three and set up two in a 7-1 demolition of Atalanta back in March, Banega’s free transfer to Inter has been underwhelming to say the least.

As a result it is no surprise Everton have seemingly walked away from a potential deal, even if they do need considerable strength in depth to cope with their domestic duties and a Europa League campaign next season.

Inter will be hoping to find a buyer for Banega as they bid to make the money they need to adhere to Financial Fair Play rules by the end of the month.

But despite that busy day in Italy for Steve Walsh, when Banega was said to be the priority target from his meeting with Inter, that ship appears to have sailed.
