Liverpool have been heavily linked with Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, but he may now be staying at the San Siro.

The Reds didn’t replace Gini Wijnaldum following his move to Paris Saint-Germain, and may instead move for a midfielder next summer.

Wijnaldum left for free, and Brozovic has been linked as a replacement given that he can also move for nothing at the end of the season.

The Croatian ace is inside the final year of his contract, and Inter Live reported last month that Liverpool are already preparing a big move.

They claimed that Liverpool were already willing to pay Brozovic €7million-a-year (£115,000-a-week) in order to bring him to Anfield.

However, Gazzetta Dello Sport now claim that Brozovic’s father has visited Milan this week and a deal to keep the midfielder at Inter is now looking closer.

Brozovic wants up to €6million (£98,000-a-week) to stay at Inter, and they are now ready to meet his demands in order to appreciate his importance.

The sales of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku over the summer may have freed up some cash to keep Brozovic after all.

Accepting this deal would mean that Brozovic is taking less money than Liverpool’s offer in order to stay at the San Siro.

Brozovic has been in Milan for almost seven years now, and may just feel settled there; he has a wife and two kids over in Italy, and may not want the upheaval of moving to England.

The deal isn’t done yet, but it looks like Brozovic is leaning towards staying at Inter despite the alleged Liverpool interest.
