According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente is in line to start against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon amid concerns over Harry Kane’s status.

Spurs may have enjoyed a superb afternoon last Sunday, hammering Liverpool 4-1 at Wembley Stadium, but Mauricio Pochettino then saw his side lose 3-2 to West Ham United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, having been 2-0 up at half time.

Tottenham will be keen to respond this weekend, especially in such a key game as they travel to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford, having managed to close the gap to the Red Devils, with the two teams now lying level on points in the Premier League table.

Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur looks on during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at Wembley Stadium on October 22, 2017 in London, England.

Whilst Pochettino may be confident of picking up a result against Jose Mourinho’s side, but his preparations for the game have been dented by concerns over Harry Kane’s injury.

Kane was substituted against Liverpool as he nursed a hamstring injury, and there are now fears that he will be ruled out of Saturday’s game against United, in what would be a huge blow for Pochettino and co.

The Mirror report that with concerns of Kane’s participation, Fernando Llorente is being lined up to make his first Premier League start for Tottenham since signing from Swansea City on deadline day in August.

The Spanish hitman, 32, has started just three games in all competitions for Spurs, including the midweek defeat to West Ham United, but he could now be called upon to lead the line for Spurs at Old Trafford.

Pochettino often went with Son Heung-min as the lone striker when Kane was missing last season, but the recent signing of Llorente means that Pochettino does have options in attack, and it makes sense for a player of Llorente’s experience and proven goalscoring ability to start if Kane misses out.
