According to The Athletic, Mykhaylo Mudryk’s agents were expecting a bid from Arsenal on Deadline Day.

The Ukrainian winger had been subject to interest from both the Gunners and Brentford in the final days of the transfer window, and while a bid did arrive from the Bees, a transfer didn’t come to fruition.

Mudryk has been described as an ‘incredible dribbler’, earning the nickname The Ukrainian Neymar.

Arsenal were credited with a strong interest in Mudryk, and the question was asked, but despite the agents’ expectations, a bid never arrived.

The Gunners were in the market for a new wide forward all summer long. Bids for Raphinha failed, while Pedro Neto and Moussa Diaby were also touted as targets.

However, unfortunately for Mikel Arteta, the Gunners didn’t have another trick up their sleeve on deadline day and the final weeks of the transfer window came and went without a new player arriving at the Emirates.

After five wins from their opening five games, it looks as though the current Arsenal squad is more than strong enough to challenge for the top four, but a few more quality additions may have been needed to make that next step as title contenders.

Luckily, due to the World Cup, we’re only 13 games or so away from the January transfer window opening, so if Arsenal do feel the need to sign a new winger – potentially Mudryk, the opportunity to do so is just around the corner.

As the Deadline Day bids for Douglas Luiz showed, there is money in the bank at the Emirates, so it’s fair to say that the Gunners could be active in the winter window.
