Nabil Fekir was strongly linked with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool a few years ago, and while you would think that he would love to move to the Premier League given that he wanted to switch to Anfield, it seems that the Real Betis and France international midfielder simply does not want to join Newcastle United.
Nabil Fekir does not want Newcastle United transfer
EstadioDeportivo have reported that Fekir has turned down the chance to move to Newcastle before and will reject them again if they make an approach in the January transfer window.
The report in the Spanish news outlet has claimed that it is ‘impossible’ that the French playmaker will move to Newcastle even if Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) make a big offer to Betis and the La Liga club themselves are open to a sale.
The Sunday Mirror (11/12, p68) have reported that Newcastle are ready to switch their attention to Fekir if they are unable to sign Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison.
This reported stance of the attacking midfielder does seem extreme, especially when you consider that Newcastle are going places under head coach Eddie Howe.
The Magpies are in the running for the Premier League top four at the moment and could end up playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Moreover Fekir had the chance to play in the Premier League before with Liverpool, and you would think that, at the age of 29, he would be excited at the prospect of playing in the world’s richest and most-watched domestic league.

Fekir said in September 2021 that he wanted to move to Liverpool in 2018 when he was still at Lyon and even spoke to manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Frenchman told The Times: “Of course I was disappointed not to go to Liverpool, very disappointed because Liverpool are a great club.
“I met the coach, Jürgen Klopp, and it went well. After meeting him, I wanted to join Liverpool even more. He’s a good person.
“It was really difficult to deal with as I really wanted to go to Liverpool. It was a moment that was not easy for me.”
