There could be interest from Rangers, Celtic or both in the Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy, according to Yorkshire Live.
The website claims that Murphy is being tracked by ‘a number of Championship clubs’ and ‘teams north of the border’.
The 25-year-old has returned to Newcastle from a successful loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, but the report adds that the Magpies would prefer to sell their once £12 million recruit – hoping to recoup ‘a substantial amount’ of their investment – should they choose to offload him.
Could Rangers or Celtic target Jacob Murphy?
It is unlikely that many Scottish clubs outside of Rangers and Celtic, if any, could afford such a transfer fee, let alone attract a player of Murphy’s calibre.
Rangers have seen Sheyi Ojo return to Liverpool at the end of his loan spell, while Celtic have gone through the same process with Daniel Arzani and released Jonny Hayes – all three of whom play in Murphy’s position.

And although neither Rangers or Celtic are particularly short of bodies there, a player like the latter, who scored or created 13 goals in 39 Championship games for Wednesday, would arguably enhance their options.
