Manchester United reportedly want Everton’s Idrissa Gueye.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton have accepted that midfielder Idrissa Gueye wants to leave this summer, with Manchester United keen on a £40million move.
The Toffees take on Tottenham Hotspur in their final game of the season this afternoon, bringing the curtain down on Marco Silva’s first season in charge of the club.
However, today’s game may also bring the curtain down on Gueye’s Everton career, with the Daily Mail claiming it’s likely to be his final game for the Toffees.
It’s stated that Everton now accept that Gueye wants to move on, and are ready to grant him his wish of a summer move away from Goodison Park.
Paris Saint-Germain strongly pursued the 29-year-old in January, but the report states that Manchester United have now entered the race, eyeing up a £40million swoop.
That would be around five times what Everton paid to sign Gueye from Aston Villa in 2016, and may feel that it will be hard to keep the Senegal international with the club.
Everton’s lack of European football may well hurt them here, but they would no doubt rather sell him to PSG than to a Premier League rival in United.
United allegedly see Gueye as being the man to unlock Paul Pogba’s potential in midfield, seeing him as a similar player to Pogba’s French international teammate N’Golo Kante, and believe they can pay a bigger transfer fee than PSG.
